CSCI-735 Foundations of Intelligent Security Systems Syllabus

Catalogue Description

The course will introduce students into the current state of intelligent methodologies applications in computer security and information assurance system design. It will review different application areas such as intrusion detection and monitoring systems, an access control and biological authentication, a firewall structure and design. The students will be required to implement a course project on design of a particular security tool with an application of an artificial intelligence methodology and to undertake research and analysis of artificial intelligence applications in computer security. (CSCI-630 Introduction to Intelligent Systems or CSCI-651 Data Communications and Networks I)

Course Outcomes

• Students will be able to advance their theoretical knowledge of artificial intelligence methodologies in practical security system design (supports program outcomes 2 and 5) Evaluation: by project report and tests
• Students will be able to learn the structure and design concepts of fundamental computer security systems and tools. (supports program outcomes 2 and 3) Evaluation: by assignments and tests
• Students will be able to advance their communication and presentation skills. (supports program outcomes 3 and 4) Evaluation: by presentation on the topic assigned
• Students will be able to advance their research and analytical skills. (supports program outcome 4) Evaluation: by a project report and presentation
