Seminar Presentations

Weight: 20% of final grade

Groups

Students will give presentations in groups of two (and if necessary three), and each group will give two presentations during the quarter, in Weeks 6-9. Presentations should be at most fifty minutes long, including questions. As this is a seminar course, your group should be prepared to answer questions during the presentation as well as at the end (time permitting). All students must contribute to both the preparation and presentation of the seminars by their group.

Deliverables

After presenting, each group must submit copies of slides and notes (as .pdf files), links to presented research papers, and other materials through MyCourses before the start of the next class. This will give each group an opportunity to make additions/revisions to their seminar materials before they are posted on the course web page.

Evaluation

The breakdown for each seminar grade is as follows:

Each presentation will count for 10% of the final grade.

Students are expected to consult additional books and/or peer-reviewed publications in addition to the assigned reading when preparing seminars. In addition, the inclusion of a current research paper related to the topic presented will result in a grade bonus (up to 10%).

After each seminar class, students must submit brief evaluations through MyCourses using the template below. The instructor will send anonymous compilations of these evaluations to the groups that presented. Presenters do not need to provide self-evaluations. However, not submitting evaluations for other groups or providing very superficial evaluations will result in a grade penalty.
