Interscapes

InterscapesInterscapes is a musical multimedia presentation performance that examines a contemporary definition of home in our digital culture and utilizes mobile technology with web mapping to open a dialog between the audience and musicians.

In it's first iteration (performed at ImagineRIT 2014), the audience is asked to download the 01x mobile app and input the place they consider home, as well as three words that signify their definition of home.  During the performance Google Earth zooms into each musicians home address ending with a street view of that location followed by childhood memories.  A world map displays the home addresses of the audience and musicians to illustrate the diversity of location converging to a common shared live concert experience, ending with the collective descriptions of home.

In the second iteration (performed at the 2014 Rochester FRINGE festival), audience members are queried about the first intersection they crossed on their way to the performance and are asked to record a short piece of audio describing their first memory of Rochester.  The intersection information is sent to a server along with the recorded audio and during the live performance, Google Maps is used to illustrate the personal journey of audience members to the venue.  The recorded stories are introduced as an auditory layer on top of the music being performed by the ensemble, thus creating a sense of community and shared experiences.

This performance is part of the 01x Project.
