InterPlay
is a multi-faceted event that consists of two or more performances
that occur simultaneously in various cities around the world. The
performances are concurrently captured, mixed, digitized, encoded
and streamed onto the network. The director manipulates each video
stream to appear in any of several video playback windows. This
creates a work that takes individual stories and weaves them into
a multi layered, distributed, cinematic performance.Interplay has been researched by the Another Language Performing Arts Company, based in Salt Lake City, UT, since 1995, most recently (since 2003) using the Access Grid as the foundation for communication and video/audio streaming.
In 2008, RIT participated in the Interplay, Carnivale. Utilizing technology created for the Virtual Theatre project, video of virtual actors, performing in a virtual 3D space, are streamed over the Access Grid and incorporated as part of the complete performance.
