Order does matter:

$$\begin{align*} &1 2 3\\ &1 3 2\\ &2 1 3\\ &2 3 1\\ &3 1 2\\ &3 2 1 \end{align*}$$

Order doesn't matter:

$$1 2 3$$

How does this work? Order doesn't matter: $1 2 3$. Can't it also be say, $3 2 1$? Doesn't this also show that order doesn't matter.

    It's not at all clear what you are asking, but perhaps it will help you to know that the *sequences* $(1,2,3)$ and $(2,1,3)$ are different but the *sets* $\{ 1, 2, 3 \}$ and $\{ 2, 1, 3 \}$ are the same. The order you list elements matters when you give a sequence, but not when you give a set.2012-05-28
