What is the base for Roman Numerals? It starts off with unary then goes back and forth between multiples of 5 and 10.

    Sometimes an "I" could stand for $(-1)$ as well, e.g.: "XIX" for $19$. :)2011-09-24

    There isn't a concept of "place value" with Roman numerals, so you can't really speak of a base...2011-09-24
