FTPing files to your CS account

To ftp files from a PC or Mac to your CS account, do the following:

  1. bring up ftp
  2. Type what you see in bold below following the ftp prompt (ftp >):
    1. ftp > open tin.cs.rit.edu (or any other CS machine name instead of tin)
    2. if you're transfering a TIFF, GIF, JPEG (non-text file) type binary

      3. if you're transfering a text file, type ascii
    3. ftp > put your-file-name-on-PC/Mac  filename-you-want-on-Unix
    4. ftp > ls  (to see that it transfered)
    5. ftp > quit
