ABSTRACT

At last November's IAB meeting, several board members asked if the Computer Science curriculum should include more instruction in two areas: formal software process and estimation.

Over the last few months, I have been gathering data on industry trends and the importance of these skills. Included were surveys and interviews with software professionals, students, and HRM recruiters. Perhaps most valuable was my summer experience working at Kodak with a development group heavily involved in process improvement.

The purpose of this talk is to share my findings and observations, and to open discussions on how (and if) these and other topics fit into our curriculum.
