ABSTRACT

A lot of the latest Internet related press releases have been announcements about new portals. It has been a real hype, and the word ``portal'' has been used very often for many different applications and products. However, it is not trivial to build one from scratch and a useful design is necessary. Also, there is a lack of modules to cover the first steps.

This talk presents a definition for Internet portals and lists their most important properties. An abstraction to ease the later development is given and parts of a framework for a portal are shown.
