Java is now in a period of rapid evolution. This talk will start off describing some of the rationales and processes leading to the upcoming enhancements in JDK 1.5, including generics, syntax extensions, metadata annotations, class file formats, and new libraries for concurrency, system monitoring, and XML support. The talk will continue with brief discussions of features under consideration for future releases, including process isolation, resource management, enhanced IO, and aspect-oriented programming support.
