• April 25th The papers, and the copies of the journal articles, are due in class. Papers will not be accepted after that time.
• April 29th - May 3th Practice presentation (times will be scheduled later)
• May 7th Final class presentation (times will be scheduled later)

• General Students will be working in groups of two to research and present some current topic in computer architecture. Each student will have to write an 8-12 page paper, and together the group will present their research in a 20-25 minute presentation.

• Topic. Your research topic shall be a review and discussion of some recent topic in computer architecture. It should include reference to at least two papers published within the last 5 years (2008 or later) from reputable technical journals or proceedings from related conferences. Note that books or chapters from books do not satisfy this requirement.

  Each group must register their topic with me by March 28th: To register, you must submit the names of the group members, a title, short abstract, and a bibliography. The bibliography must include at least the papers you are planning to discuss. All of the above must be e-mailed to my account (paw@cs.rit.edu) with the subject line: 720 Research Topic

• Research Paper Each student in the team will independently be writing an 8-12 page paper on their topic using the material from the one of their two sources. Note that both students in the group cannot use the same article. Your paper will present your topic in light of your selected article. I am not looking for just a summary of the article, instead I am looking for a paper that discusses the background of the problem they are trying to solve, the solution presented in the article, results of the solution, and your thoughts in light of the fact that you have read at least one other article in this area.

  It is your responsibility to fill your paper with information and to convince me, with as much evidence as possible, that you have thought hard and constructively about your topic.

  My evaluation of your paper will, to some extent, be subjective. However, there are some qualities that every paper should possess. Good style and correct use of the English language are required; you will lose points for a poorly organized paper. However, it is the technical content that will be weighed most heavily.

• Deliverables. You will be turning your paper in both hardcopy (printed) and electronic format (documents should be saved using RTF format). The electronic copy of your paper will be used through turn-it-in ( http://turnitin.com/static/home.html) to check for plagiarism.

  In addition, you will also be expected to turn in a paper copy of the primary journal articles that you used, these will be returned with your graded paper.

• Class Presentation Each group will have to present their research in a 20-25 minute talk during the last 2 weeks of class. The group will have to put together a single presentation covering their topic, I do not want the presentation to feel like 2 different talks. Each student will have to do half of the presenting, and will be graded accordingly.

• Class Presentation Grading The Class Presentation is worth a total of 12% of your final grade. That is broken up into the following parts

  Topic Registration:	2%
  Practice Presentation:	3%
  Class Presentation:	6%
  Class Evaluation:	1%

• Paper Format. The paper must be double-spaced and must have margins of approximately one inch on all sides. Pages must be numbered. The paper must have a cover page stating the title of the paper, your name, the course name, and the quarter.

• Journals. The following is a sample list of journals and conference proceedings. Don't restrict your search to these. However, they may provide a good place from which to start your search.
