Canoeing on Black Creek 2/16/99

Well, we did it again! Went canoeing in the middle of winter in Rochester, NY. (Take a look at the pictures of our earlier canoe trip on the Oatka Creek, January 23, 1999)

Ready to launch, 2/16/99. It was 54 degrees.
Check out the ice! The creeks we see when we drive back and forth to school were clear; we thought this one would be, too.

Pretty day.
Launching the canoe. Ice is a little thicker than we thought!
Hmmm - can't go much farther in this direction.
I've heard of icebreakers before, but not canoe icebreakers!
Some of this ice was 2 inches thick.
Our path.
We explored all of the open water we could reach in about an hour.
This makes 12 consecutive months we've been canoeing!
