The first day was sunny; it started cool but warmed up in the afternoon. The crew got to know one another.

This is the site that the lean-to overlooks. The pond is on the States Farm; the owner, Carl States, is extremely generous in allowing the FLT conference to build a lean-to in such an attractive location.
Ken is sawing one of the 6x6 beams that will form the foundation for the lean-to.
Laying the foundation. Carl (the landowner) had his crew put in the gravel pad before we arrived; our challenge was to set the foundation, level it, and square it.
"Chainsaw" Bob looks on while Ray drills the hole for the lag bolt that will hold the timbers of the foundation together.

One of the many conferences we had to:

  • interpret the plans,
  • inventory our materials,
  • decide when to break for lunch.

You know, all the usual stuff.

The end of Day One:

  • the foundation is in place
  • we've laid the first three logs of the walls
  • we're ready for the floor to go down.
