11.1.  The Java Studio Architecture

Components interact in Java Studio via ports.

A port may either be:

• In - can only receive inputs.
• Out - can only send outputs.
• Two-way - a bi-directional, input-output (I/O) port which can both: send outputs and receive inputs.

The validation of port connections and passing of messages along the ports is done by Java Studio.

A Java Studio program is built by wiring the ports of the components together, like:
