Carl Reynolds' General Policies

Instructor
You may call me Carl or Professor Reynolds.
My office is in Room 3569.
Phone: 475 7926
E-mail: chr at cs.rit.edu

Office hours
I will be in my office during the hours posted on our class web site. If my regular hours won't work with your schedule, I will be happy to arrange another time to meet. Just give me a call, or e-mail.

Homework
When I assign homework, the homework is due on the last class day of the week. I will not accept late homework for grading. If you must miss class, send your homework to class with a friend, or send it to me via e-mail in advance. In computing your homework grade, I will discard the lowest grade you receive and base your homework grade on your better efforts. Weekly homework will help you master the concepts through distributed practice, and should reduce anxiety surrounding tests and project deadlines.

Academic Honesty
I take a very severe view of academic dishonesty, and I will handle any such incident according to the Department of Computer Science Policy on Academic Dishonesty.
Academic dishonesty is any misrepresentation of the facts regarding the origin or contents of academic work. Most dilemmas regarding academic honesty can be avoided simply by citing your sources. (For example, this documentation of general policies is borrowed from Professor Reek, now retired.)

Class Attendance
Class attendance is not mandatory, but I will make a record of attendance. If a performance problem develops, I will be more sympathetic if you have been attending class. When deciding whether or not to attend, think what you or your parents are paying for each hour of class time. In my opinion, face-to-face instruction in a classroom is still the best method for teaching and learning. Take advantage of the opportunity -- learn from the teacher and your peers in a live environment. Soon enough you'll be in industry where real person-to-person training can be a very rare event.
