My individual course information can be found at http://www.cs.rit.edu/usr/local/pub/jeh/courses/. I often post notes, examples, and test study guides here for individual courses.
I do not accept phone calls at home at any time for any reason. If you want to get in touch with me during the evening or night, your best shot is using the computer mail system. I always check mail on weekdays. I also have an answering machine in my office that I can check remotely.
Questions about graded work must be resolved within one week of the day the work is handed back, after which the grade becomes permanent. Missed classes, quizes, late homeworks, etc. Unless otherwise stated, attendance in class is not mandatory; however, you are responsible for all information presented in class as well as any assigned reading. If you miss a class, do not expect me to repeat the entire lecture just for you; it is your responsibility to get the notes.
Homework and test dates are often announced or changed in class; absence from class is not a valid excuse for not knowing this kind of information.
Late work will not be accepted unless I have received, ahead of
time, a
very good reason why you can not get it done on time. A point
penalty will apply.
Tests can be made up only if arranged with me in advance; be advised, however, that makeup tests are generally more difficult than the original test. Again, like the homework, if a test is missed without prior arrangements, no makeup can be given. Computer mail is OK notification, but I am not responsible for the mail not reaching me in time for whatever reason; a personal or telephone contact is advisable for this situation.
If the Institute has been officially closed at a time when we have something scheduled (test, quiz, lab due date, etc.), then whatever was missed will be rescheduled for the day that classes resume. This will happen automatically and without announcement.
The Computer Science Department follows the RIT policy that students who do not attend the first class, or otherwise get in touch with me, will be dropped from the course. You are responsible for making sure that you are properly registered for your courses. Just coming to class every day for a few weeks does not get you in. Keep your copies of registration paperwork in case of problems later. No grade will be given to students whose names do not appear on the grade roster, as they would be rejected anyway.
Any person whose name appears on the grade roster but did no work will be assigned a grade of F.
I (incomplete) grades are only given in unusual hardship circumstances. They are not given as an alternative to a late W, nor are they given if you do not discuss it with me until after due dates have been missed (see section above on missed work).
See the institute document on proper student Code of Conduct.
High-level discussion with other students is fine (unless explicitly restricted), and even encouraged; but showing, dictating, or otherwise transmitting details of your work to others is banned.
