AOP Course Graduate Project Suggestions

These lists will be augmented during the term.

Mostly Code

Here the emphasis is on applying some kind of aspect-oriented tool you already know to a different problem domain and reporting on how AO helped or hindered the development of that project. Presentation estimate would be 10 minutes for the problem domain and 20 minutes for the design and project demonstration.

• Security/authentication
• Transparency of remote/local objects
• Writing a debugger using AO. (I have suggestions if done in AspectJ.)
• Exception handling framework
• Profiling tool
• Testing tool (where advice is used to verify the outcome of a call)
• A web-based application using Spring (probably in the style of the Interceptor pattern, but with AO tools)
  

Mostly Research

Here the emphasis is on looking at recent work in the field of AO and applying it to a small demonstration project. Presentations will be a bit longer because they must explain technology and/or techniques to the audience. Presentation estimate would be 20 minutes for the technology and 10 minutes for code and demonstration.

• Applying AO to other languages, e.g., Ruby, C#, C/C++
• Mylin, a popular Eclipse plug-in
• A study of more dynamic weaving and linking of aspects
