The Department of Computer Science at the Rochester Institute of Technology invites applications for the position of Department Chair to begin August 2013. The successful applicant will be prepared to assume the administrative responsibilities associated with leading a department, which includes 41 faculty and staff and over 900 students, and has the ability and interest in contributing to a community committed to Student Centeredness; Professional Development and Scholarship; Integrity and Ethics; Respect, Diversity and Pluralism; Innovation and Flexibility; and Teamwork and Collaboration. The department is committed to excellence in teaching and research. We offer an ABET accredited BS degree in Computer Science with 660 undergraduate students which includes mandatory co-op experience, an MS degree with 260 graduate students. The Computer Science faculty are actively engaged in an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Computing and Information Sciences housed within the college and engage in a wide range of research activities, often involving undergraduate and graduate students. A key role for the new department chair will be leading the department in increasing and enhancing its research impact. The department has 30 full-time faculty and 11 full-time staff.

The Department of Computer Science is part of RIT’s largest college, the B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, which has an enrollment of over 3000 students. The college is housed in a modern facility equipped with numerous teaching and research laboratories. The other units include the college-wide interdisciplinary Ph.D. program, Computing Security, Information Sciences and Technologies, Interactive Games and Media, and Software Engineering. There are many opportunities for cooperation and research collaboration among the college’s units.
