    Three papers by MS-CS student David Rivshin (reconstruction numbers), MS-CS student Joel Lathrop (Folkman numger), and undergraduate CS students Kevin Black, Harvey Mudd College, and Daniel Leven of Rutgers University (two-color Ramsey problems) jointly with Professor Radziszowski were recently (May 2010) accepted for publication in the special issue of the Journal of Combinatorial Mathematics and Combinatorial Computing.     CS faculty make the cut
    Professors Xumin Liu and Manjeet Rege had a paper accepted in the 2010 IEEE International Conference on Web Services (ICWS) to be held in Miami, FL in July. ICWS is one of the most prestigious and competitive research conferences. Only 17% of the papers were accepted this year.

    Making a difference
    CS staff members volunteered at this year’s United Way Day of Caring. This is a day-long event that offers people an opportunity to contribute to our community by volunteering at area health and human service agencies. They organization they worked with this year was Heritage Christian Services.

    The Japan experience
    This summer Sara Jackson, a CS student, will be studying in Japan at the Kanasawa Institute of Technology (KIT). She’ll be immersing herself in the Japanese language and culture. She plans to speak English only one day a week to help improve her Japanese conversation skills. The program runs from June 9 to July 24. (more)

    Innovation happening this summer
    CS students Michael Dumont, James Loomis, and Benjamin Mayes each were accepted to participate in this year’s RIT Center for Student Innovation Undergraduate Summer Research Program. They will be working with CS faculty on projects they developed and will present to the RIT Undergraduate Research Symposium at the end of the summer. Congratulations to Michael, James, and Benjamin!

    Cutting Edge Research
    We are pleased to report that the RIT & RGHS Alliance granted 7 seed funding awards to RIT and RGHS collaborators. Among the recipients were our own Reynold Bailey (computer science) and Marla Schweppe (school of design), along with Drs. John Valvo and Louis Eichel, RGHS, who will work together to develop a surgical simulation system for training surgeons to perform robotic prostate surgery.
